Non Drug Pain Management Ideas: Drink Green Tea!

Arthritis

The number one cause of disability in America, according to the Center for Disease Control is arthritis. Symptoms of arthritis include finding it difficult to perform daily tasks where you use your hands, or  a painful, sharp sensation in your joints. If you experience these symptoms, you may have arthritis. A compound in green tea called epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) was found by University of Michigan researchers  to alleviate arthritis pain. Drinking green tea in the morning and night may help soothe joint pain. Hot green  tea works better is of more benefit, because the steam releases more of the EGCG compound.

Psoriasis

Green tea can help combat psoriasis, a sometimes painful condition in which the skin flakes and causes lesions. Medical College of Georgia researchers tested green tea in association with psoriasis, finding that the tea reduced skin cell production rates, therefore benefiting persons with this autoimmune disease. If you are not a tea drinker, try taking green tea tablets as a supplement. These are available at most health stores. Dosing varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, so always take the recommended dosage to help with psoriasis.

Chronic Gastritis

Inflammation in your stomach is not only painful, but it can cause ulcers and gastric cancer. Green tea is known to decrease helicobacter pylori, a bacteria that can cause infections in the stomach. One study of a  Japanese farming village found that people who consumed 10 cups or more of green tea on a daily basis had a 37% incidence of gastritis.

Other Benefits

Green tea has other health benefits as well--it helps to promote a healthy digestive system, fights cancer and can help prevent cardiovascular disease. Green tea can also reduce stress, slow the aging process and aid clear skin.

People that don't have to live with this kind of pain don't fully understand the whole story.  Maybe this movie will shed some light on the issues. Here is the official trailer for the movie: Sources: prweb;NorthJersey.com;YouTube

Sciatica: A common pain in the butt!

Non Drug Pain Management Ideas: Applying the 80/20 Principle

The idea for today's post comes from my husband, who has in recent years become a follower of the paleo/primal diet.  Most of the time he is very strict about this diet, making sure not to eat anything taboo.  On occasion, he breaks from the rigidity of his new found way of life and enjoys a few cookies, maybe a bottle of beer, or a new pasta dish. Why, you ask?  He says that according to others who follow this course, there is an 80/20 rule.  This means that that if you adhere to the rules 80% of the time, you can allow yourself some leeway the other 20% of the time.  It is important to bring this concept to the readers of this blog for a number of reasons: 1)If you have been following this blog at all, you know there are a lot of lifestyle changes that can tremendously enhance relief from chronic pain.  For a lot of people this not an easy thing to do.  By opting to follow the 80/20 rule these lifestyle modifications suddenl...
